Acer Iconia Tab A500 with USB 3G Modem

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Androd tablet has already rooted, but this is not enough because its tablet only for WiFi. Referring to Iconia Tab specs, there is USB port that act as the USB host port. It’s mean we could attach other USB device such as mice, keyboard and Flashdisk as additional hardware. And now, we need to attach the USB 3 modem and or USB EVDO modem to the tablet and accessing the Internet through the USB modem.

Could this possible on Acer Iconia Tab A500?, for now, some developers on XDA forum has already work to do this. And the result is great since the tablet has already connect to Internet through USB 3G modem even only for browser and terminal while the apps still doesn’t see the Internet connection as their network.

However not all USB 3G modem could work, the modem must be supported by 3G kernel module. The USB 3G modem could work on the tablet after disabling ZERO_CD. So, if you want USB 3G modem works on your Acer Iconia, you should download the modules than put in the root of /sdcard. The complete instructions stated like below;

– Download the modules than put in the root of /sdcard
– Put chat,, into /system/xbin than give them execution permissions
– Go into /etc/ppp and make a directory “peers”
– Put 3g in the peers dir you just created

Afterward you should type following command on terminal console;

After finish and nothing goes wrong, you should see the ppp0 interface. After this, you could set your profile connection through the USB 3G modem to dial from it. For now, only console and browser could accessing the Internet but not for the apps. Hopefully, our friends in XDA forum could find the way soon to hack the Acer Iconia Tab A500 system more deeply to gain Internet access from USB 3G modem.
