Nice to know if we hear some Independent Android developers out there work to port the latest version of Android on the old phone with lower spec device. Many of them work in a team but not a few who work independently by using the popular custom ROM mod such as CyanogenMod. Like we hear today, even it is late, there is Android Jelly Bean on Galaxy Ace and Gio based on CM10. But please notice the upgrade to Jelly Bean is unofficial of CyanogenMod 10.
Since the ROM still in alpha stage, there are some features are not working but most of the part such as mobile data, WiFi, audio, Bluetooth, SD Card are working including sensors, browser, mass storage, and 2D/3D acceleration. By upgrading your Samsung Galaxy Ace and Gio to Android Jelly Bean, you will know how to feel the latest version of Android OS work on older phone with lower specification device.
But we are not highly recommended use the ROM for day to day use since some parts still not working and perhaps force close buggy facing your life. Just let the developer finish their work until stable version release with minor bug or no bug. SO just support them on their website and kindly suggest the features or applications that must include on the Android Jelly Bean ROM for Samsung Galaxy Ace and Gio.
What is not working from Jelly Bean CM10 for Galaxy Ace and Gio?, refer to the original page, there are some parts are not working such as microphone, headphones, small speaker, camera, FM Radio, deep sleep, native Android app2sd, and more. We hope that in next release all of those things solve and work properly for day-to-day use.
But if you insist to upgrade your Gio or Ace to Android Jelly Bean, you can download the CM10 Jelly Bean ROM from download link. You should make full wipe after installation, but there shouldn’t be any problem if you’re updating ICS to JB. Once you go to download link, there are links for CyanogenMod 9 for Ace and Gio that using Android 4.0.4 ICS as base. If you think you are not welcome yet with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, you can flash your phone into CM9 since mostly the parts have been working with no bug recently.
Since Android Jelly Bean working on older phone with low spec device, in future some older Android phones have chances to enjoy the Jelly Bean. But since it is not official update from manufacturer instead of Independent Android developer, no guarantee which old Android phone receive the Jelly Bean upgrade. We hope some old Xperia phones from 2010 line yp and 2011 line up get the update to Jelly Bean such as Xperia X10, X10 mini, and X10 mini pro because last few days a go Xperia X8 just receive an upgrade to Android 4.0.4 ICS even though the update came from CM9. At this moment, let’s enjoy Android Jelly Bean on Galaxy Ace and Gio.
