Goodbye Symbian

Sony Ericsson seems left back the Symbian Operating System on the warehouse since they has no plans to use Symbian on the next launch handsets smartphone. In other words, Sony ericsson has already focus with Android as their default Operating System.

Yes, we know, just a moment ago, Sony Ericsson launch Vivaz to the market which use Symbian as the Operating System but this is the last handset which Symbian, otherwise Xperia range all use the Android.

The confirmation followed remarks made by Sony Ericsson CTO Jan Uddenfeldt to the Swedish press last week.

Sony Ericsson reported that a boost in Android shipments helped it achieve a second consecutive quarterly profit earlier in the year.

CEO Bert Nordberg said, “I want us to have the biggest share of Android phone sales in the world. If you look globally, the competition is really between Android and the iPhone. We currently have three operating systems that we use and I would like that to go down to two, with most of our activity going on Android.”

The move comes as Symbian, the most commonly used OS in the world, loses favour with mobile app developers, wary of the platform fragmentation often involved.
