NTFS Support for Android Tablet

Now we have many options to buy Android tablet with various specs and price. If we choose the Android tablet from popular brand maker, we will get large of internal memory and there are USB slots and SD card support. But for some people, the capacity is not enough and need to attach external HDD to tablet through USB slot.

But unfortunately not all file system has already support as native by Android kernel. Like NTFS file system, as native kernel is not supported due to legal issue since the NTFS is belong to Microsoft. So, we miss the NTFS support because some people has multimedia file collection like MKVs that already save on HDD with NTFS.

We need a custom ROM that support NTFS to allow us open or playing the file in portable hard drive would be perfect especially on Android tablet like Iconia A500. Fortunately it happens by installing the third party .apk file and no longer need to mess around with adding files to system/xbin and writing up scripts.

To install the NTFSMount.apk, it needs root access. So, if your Android tablet still unroot, you could rooted it with gingerbreak or similar apps that has same function.

To use the NTFSMount app, you should follow the instructions below;
- Install APK
- Connect HDD
- Launch app
- Select device
- Click Mount

Done. Now you can explore your NTFS portable hard drive than play any video file inside through the Android tablet. The NTFSMount apk is free available for download, there are 3 .apk files that present the version of app. On the latest version 1.2 fixes a bug which could cause some devices not to be displayed.
